WHY DO CUSTOMERS CONFESS ANONYMOUSLY??
There is something strangely freeing about telling a complete stranger something you have never told the people closest to you.
No name. No awkward conversation afterwards. No wondering whether they will look at you differently tomorrow.
You just say it.
After more than a year of reading anonymous Drizzl’d Confessions, we’ve started to realise that people confess for all sorts of reasons. Some want advice. Some want to know whether they were actually in the wrong. Some probably already know the answer and are hoping someone will tell them otherwise.
And sometimes, it seems people simply need to get something off their chest.
Anonymity changes the conversation.
When your identity is removed, so is some of the fear that normally comes with admitting something uncomfortable. You can talk about the relationship you’re questioning, something you did years ago, an embarrassing moment, a friendship you secretly want to end or a thought you would never comfortably say at the dinner table.
There is still judgement, of course.
Our Jury makes sure of that.
But there is a big difference between strangers judging a story and the people in your real life judging you.
Perhaps that is part of the appeal.
What has surprised us most about Drizzl’d Confessions is just how willing people are to participate. What began very slowly now brings us an average of around 22 new confessions every week.
Not everyone is confessing something scandalous either.
Some submissions are funny. Others are sad. Some are about love, regret, family or friendships. Occasionally we read one and genuinely have no idea how the Jury is going to react.
Maybe that is why anonymous confessions are so fascinating to read too.
Behind every confession is a real person dealing with something another person might recognise in themselves. You might disagree completely with what they did, but suddenly you’re thinking about what you would have done.
One person gets something off their chest, and thousands of strangers start talking about it.
For us, that is what the Drizzl’d Confessional has slowly become.
It isn’t just about secrets.
It is a place for conversations that might otherwise never happen.
And if there is something you’ve been carrying around that you really need to say?
We don’t snitch.
