WHAT DOES FRANCHISE SUPPORT LOOK LIKE?

Franchise support is one of the most important things to assess before investing in any food, hospitality or dessert franchise.

Many franchise opportunities promote training, systems and ongoing guidance. The real question is what that support looks like after the agreement is signed and the initial fees have been paid.

A quality franchisor should remain actively involved in the growth and development of the wider network. Support should not end once a new location opens. It should continue through regular communication, operational guidance, marketing assistance, staff development and honest conversations about what is working and what needs improvement.

Before investing, prospective franchisees should look closely at the involvement of both the founder and the broader franchise team.

Is the owner still committed to improving the business? Are they accessible when franchisees need guidance? Do they continue refining systems, developing products and investing in brand awareness? Or does their involvement appear to reduce once the initial transaction is complete?

These questions matter.

A franchisee is not simply purchasing a name or logo. They are entering a long-term business relationship. That relationship should involve shared goals, clear expectations and a genuine commitment to helping each location operate successfully.

Strong franchise support may include initial and ongoing training, detailed operating procedures, assistance with recruitment, supplier relationships, marketing campaigns, local area planning, quality reviews and regular performance discussions. It should also include honest feedback. A franchisor who avoids difficult conversations may be just as unhelpful as one who provides no support at all.

It is also worth asking how the franchisor responds when conditions become difficult. Strong support becomes most valuable when sales slow, costs increase, staffing becomes challenging or local marketing needs to change. A committed franchisor should be willing to listen, review the data and work constructively with franchise partners rather than leaving them to solve every problem alone.

At Drizzl’d, we believe franchising should be treated as a partnership rather than a transaction. Our focus is not simply on opening more stores. It is on continuing to strengthen the brand, refine our systems and support franchise partners as the company grows.

That commitment requires involvement, communication and accountability from both sides.

Before choosing a franchise, ask what happens after opening day.

The answer will often reveal whether you are joining a genuine support network or simply purchasing permission to use a brand.

Delicious desserts and warm comforts is the natural way of life for me. Leading a busy life, I found that there is often a euphoric feeling that comes from indulging in a sweet treat that’s well deserved.
